Herpes, a common viral skin infection causing the eruption of the upper layer of the skin often brings a great change in the lifestyle of a person. Herpes, which mostly affects genital area of both men and women, becomes a cause of distress in their life as they feel embarrassed to disclose the problem. Many people often make a mistake. Instead of consulting a doctor and getting the right medication for the treatment of herpes, they just get a medicine available over-the-counter. By doing this, most of the time they deteriorate their condition. Consult a doctor and discuss the problems with him to get the medicine. Positive changes are visible in a few days, if someone follows the medication course diligently. Generally, doctors recommend anti-viral medicines for the treatment of herpes symptoms. Yet, they may advice some other medicines depending on the condition of patient.

Keep Affected Area Clean and Dry

Herpes virus can multiply easily in a wet area. Therefore, follow proper hygiene and keep the affected area dry as well as clean to stop the growth of virus. Special care should be taken if herpes has affected the genital area.

Use Ice Packs and Take Warm Bath

Pain and itching are some of the common herpes symptoms. To control these, one should bath with warm water. If possible, add some baking soda with the water. Ice packs can also help in the treatment of swelling and pain.

Keep Your Clothes and Belongings Clean

This is another important factor to be noted, when it comes to the herpes treatment. Clothes should be washed regularly, especially the inner wears, which remain in direct contact with the skin. It is also suggested to avoid sharing clothes of people affected with herpes related problems, as disease germ may get contaminated.

Avoid Sexual Intercourse

Someone who has an active sex life should try to avoid sexual intercourse until and unless, herpes is healed properly. Having sex with blisters can cause pain and at times may lead to severe infection. It can also get transmitted to the other partner. So, it is always better to abstain from sex till the blisters are healed completely.

Changes in Diet Plan

It is advisable to increase the immunity of body by increasing the intake of foods rich in L-lysine- cheese, beans, eggs, milk, yeast, beef and chicken to treat herpes symptoms. To heal the blisters faster, it is recommended to avoid food containing arginine, like chocolate, nuts, grains and fish.
